Social networks users should avoid harmful comments: President Karzai

KABUL: Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan asked mass media in particular social media users and youth to use these devices for publication of sound information and informative materials, statements and avoid putting harmful materials and pictures causing discrimination amongst youths in the country.
President Hamid Karzai in his biweekly radio speech asked all media particularly users of social media as Facebook, Twitter and other weblogs and internet networks to always consider etiquettes, language modesty and respect to national and social values and prevent from disrespecting and offending on personal freedoms and territory of our countrymen.
Pointing out that Afghanistan was an Islamic and traditional society, President Karzai asserted that respecting to each others’ rights and observing Islamic and social morals should be considered as fundamental and key principle in such societies.
The President asked those youth using social media to exchange views with pleasant statements and comments and make efforts for strengthening national unity and Islamic as well as cultural values.
Hamid Karzai asserted that Afghanistan government had defended freedom of speech, press, audiovisual media in the past one decade according to the country’s constitution and enforced laws and kept freedom of speech constant.
President Hamid Karzai while stressing on importance of mass media in improvement of social situation and relations of people with each other said sympathy, unity and solidarity of the country’s youth were big investment which could help us in making a society spiritually and financially than anything else.
