UN asks for transparency, responding in election process

KABUL: A UN spokesman to Afghanistan has stressed on transparency and responding in the country’s election process.
UN spokesman to Afghanistan Nazifullah Salarzai in an interview said, “UNAMA stresses that there should be accountability and transparency in Afghanistan’s presidential run-off election, adding any document and evidence provided related to fraud and violation in the election should be processed through legal organs.” Based on the report, UNAMA spokesman asked electoral commissions, Afghanistan government, presidential candidates and the people of Afghanistan for investigation of any evidence and document proving illegal steps in the election through relevant organs, adding the documents should be investigated and reviewed based on election law and constitution of Afghanistan. The spokesman also asked IEC and ECC to keep their impartiality role in the election.
Afghanistan Independent Election Commission had previously declared that the commission was supporting no presidential candidates in the election. The Kabul Times
