KABUL: A delegation of elders from Daikundi province called on President Hamid Karzai on Sunday.
Headed by provincial governor Abdul Haq Shafaq, the delegation briefed the president about the problems of Daikundi province.
Thanking the president for promoting Daikundi to province, governor Shafaq said that work for construction of roads is going on and the provincial hospital has been inaugurated, Master Plan of new Nili city is underway and the national radio and television has begun broadcasting.
He added that 373 schools are operational in Daikundi; while 50 percent of pupils are girls.
In his speech at the meeting, Etemadi besides thanking president for giving province status to Daikundi called for construction of power generating dams in the province, saying construction of electricity dams in Daikundi would help overcome power shortage in Ghazni and Uruzgan provinces.
After listening to the problems of the elders, president Karzai expressed pleasure over developing Daikundi to province and said the Daikundi youth would get higher education.
The president also added that all Afghanistan including Daikundi would move towards further progress and development after presidential runoff.
At the end of the meeting, the delegation presented a plaque of appreciation and a copy of holy Quran to president Karzai in recognition of his services over the decade.
