An Afghan policeman was killed and four others were injured in twin blasts in western Herat province on yesterday, local officials said.
The first blast took place at about 8 a.m. near a mosque in Islam Qala of Herat close to the Afghanistan and Iran border. Police forces responded to the first attack when the second bomb detonated killing one policeman and injuring four others, said Safiwullah, border police chief in Islam Qala.
The victims have been taken to a hospital for treatments.
Preliminary reports suggest it was a suicide attack followed by gunfire. No group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the blasts.
A week ago, the Taliban had announced taking on new war tactics to target government institutions, the Afghan security forces and foreign forces.
The Afghan forces will take over full security responsibility of the country by the end of the year as foreign troops leave Afghanistan.
