KABUL: Spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, Seddiq Seddiqi has said that the Taliban militants are too weak to conduct operations.
The assertions comes after the Taliban announced to launch their so-called spring offensive code named “Khyber” from May 12 by launching a series of attacks and clashes with the security forces.
Addressing a press conference the other day, Seddiqi said that announcing to launch spring offensive by the Taliban is a mere propaganda.
Seddiqi also added that the security forces have inflicted huge casualties to the militants since beginning the week and have killed 275 armed insurgents, 147 others sustained injuries and 80 others made captive.
He also added that the security forces have seized 7,000 kg explosive objects, a number of arms and ammunitions and 36 motorbikes over the period.
Terming the Taliban’s Khyber operation as psychological war, Seddiqi said that the Taliban in the previous years had also launched propaganda war but the outcome was zero.
However, he said that the armed outfit availing opportunity would target Afghanistan people anytime.
Similarly, Seddiqi went on to say that what the Taliban have said means that terrorism is still a regional challenge and the international community should focus on the menace.
He also noted that with the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan, the process of equipping police has been continuing. However he called for more international community’s support to further equip force. Seddiqi also said at the press conference that the forces of the interior ministry are capable enough to ensure security if the elections goes for the second round. The Kabul Times
