KABUL: Unknown armed men abducted the deputy public works minister when he was on his way to office in Khair Khana, the second populous city of the capital Kabul, an official said Tuesday.
Head of crime investigation for the Kabul police, Sayed Gul Aqa Hashemi confirmed that unidentified gunmen Eng. Ahmad Shah Wahid, the deputy public works minister on construction affairs, while leaving his house from 315 area of Khairkhana to the Kabul downtown, where his office is located.
He refused to give further details about the incident.
The attackers shot wounded his driver and then managed to take him hostage to unknown location, with the officials expressing unawareness about the reason behind.
Suhail said the security organs had been informed about the incident.
This is the first time that a government senior official is kidnapped.
No one had so far claimed responsibility for the incident, with police starting tracking down the perpetrators.
