KABUL: President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai in a meeting with the Indian vice-president, Hamid Ansari here in Kabul described India as a strong friend of Afghanistan under any conditions, the presidential palace said Tuesday.
The Indian vice president who was leading a ranking delegation to attend the funeral ceremony of late Marshal Fahim the other day, had called on President Karzai and expressed his condolence over the death of Marshal Fahim to him and the people of Afghanistan.
In the meeting issues on mutual relations were discussed and president said that India has proved to be a strong friend of Afghanistan in all conditions.
For his part, the Indian dignitary pointed out the friendship between India and Pakistan is based on bilateral trust, adding the bilateral friendship before being between the two government are among the people of the two countries. The Indian vice president is accompanied by special envoy of Indian Premier and former Indian ambassadors to Afghanistan. Pakistani provincial minister, Abdul Qadir Balouch, who had also attended the funeral ceremony of Marshal Mohammad Qasim Fahim, the country’s first vice-president, in a separate meeting with President Karzai said ‘on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan I express deep condolence and sympathy over the demise of Marshal Fahim.” President Karzai expressed his gratitude over the participation of Pakistani minister in the funeral ceremony of late vice president of Afghanistan.
