Coordinated suicide attacks and explosions were foiled by Afghan intelligence in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan.
Afghan intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) announced Saturday that the militants were looking to carry out coordinated suicide attacks using vehicle-borne and motorcycle-borne improvised explosive devices.
NDS following a statement said Afghan intelligence operatives seized one vehicle and three motorcycles packed with explosives during an operation in Lashkargah city.
The statement further added that Afghan security forces seized four suicide bombing vests, one rocket launcher, 2 PK machine guns, 6 AK-47 rifles and several other weapons.
According to NDS, the militants were looking to attack presidential campaigns in Lashkargah city before they were arrested by intelligence operatives.
At least three suspected militants were also arrested by Afghan intelligence operatives, NDS added in its statement.
The anti-government armed militant groups have not commented regarding the report so far.
Helmand is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where Taliban militants are actively operating in its various districts.
